Glommen

Glommen is a small harbour village a short drive from Falkenberg, built around a working fishing port rather than a beach. The coast here is more exposed than the sheltered bays further north — low rocky shelves, open sea, and a harbour still used by working boats rather than only pleasure craft. It's a genuine fishing village first and a visitor stop second, which is exactly its appeal: real quayside activity instead of a manufactured seaside-resort feel.

Why go

Glommen suits people who want a real working harbour and open-sea views rather than another sand beach — come for an hour or two on a coastal drive, to eat smoked fish on the quay, and to watch the boats come in. It's not the place for swimming or sunbathing in the way Mellbystrand or Tylösand are, and it has no real shopping or nightlife — for that, Falkenberg town is the better base.

Things to see and do

The harbour itself is the sight: fishing boats, net sheds, and a line of smokehouses that have sold fish straight off the quay for generations. Walking the harbour wall gives an open, uninterrupted view out over the Kattegatt, with nothing between you and the horizon — a contrast to the sheltered, dune-backed bays elsewhere on this coast. A short distance south, the red cast-iron lighthouse at Morups Tånge stands on a low, seabird-rich shore and makes a natural extension to a Glommen visit, whether on foot, by bike or by car.

The village is small enough that there's no formal sightseeing beyond the harbour and the walk to the lighthouse, but that's part of the honest appeal — Glommen hasn't been built up for visitors the way some of the sand-beach villages further north have, and the working boats and net sheds are the same ones the village has always depended on, not a recreation of them.

Beaches and nature nearby

Glommen itself doesn't have a swimming beach of any size — the shore is rock rather than sand. For sand, Skrea strand, Falkenberg's town beach with its long bathing pier, is the nearest proper option, and Olofsbo further north offers a shallower, family-oriented alternative with camping. For nature, the Morups Tånge reserve just south of the village is a low, open seabird shore worth the short walk from the lighthouse car park, especially during spring and autumn migration.

Eat and drink

This is the strongest reason to visit: the harbour's smokehouses sell fish straight off the boats, eaten standing up at the quay or taken away, and it's some of the most straightforward, honest seafood on the Halland coast. There's little else in the way of restaurants or cafés in the village itself — for a wider choice, Falkenberg town has a proper restaurant scene a short drive away.

Getting there

Glommen has no railway station; Falkenberg, on the Västkustbanan main line with regular SJ and Öresundståg trains, is the nearest, with a bus or short drive on to the harbour.
